Oriental Rug Repair Ascot
We recently received a Pakistani Bukhara rug which came in to our rug cleaning facility with a certain amount of repair work required. As you can see from the image below the side cord or selvedge has become detached at one end. This is one of the most common type of oriental rug repair that we see, especially in Bukhara rugs.
This may have started as a very small area of damage, but over a period of time it will become worse if not repaired quickly. The worse the condition gets the more costly the rug repair becomes. The results of the rug repair can be seen below.
As you can see from the after repair image above, the side cord has been re-attached. As the damage here was quite extensive, the weavers have had to remove a few rows of knots from the side of the rug to make sure the rug is repaired as uniformly as possible. They have also repaired the rug using a blue side cord to replace the damaged red one.
Above is a close-up image a damaged corner and fringe. This type of damage is usually caused by a dog nibbling at the corner or by a vacuum cleaner. In this case the weavers have brought the knots at the end of the rug back to the blue border, exposing new fringe and at the same time losing the damaged corner.
The resultant rug repair means that the rug now has an attractive straight fringe and a secure corner, with no risk of losing any more pile from the main field.
