Pet Stained Carpet – Oriental Rug Cleaning Virginia Water
We recently received a heavily pet stained carpet from a customer in Virginia water who was looking for an oriental rug cleaning company that could deal with this situation.
Pet staining is one of the most common problems that we have to deal with at Oriental Rug Spa. The only way to completely remove the urine is to fully wash the piece using the appropriate chemistry to deal with the urine crystals.
Pet accidents in rugs and carpets are one of the most difficult stains to remove. We can usually guarantee complete odour removal but the staining may not always be successfully dealt with. The main reason for this is the pH shift from acid to alkaline, which causes the fibres to discolour. When urine first comes into contact with the rug it is warm and acidic. If the pet accident is not absorbed correctly very quickly the pH level shifts to alkaline. The urine salts have a crystalline structure which grabs on to the fibres, making removal with water and detergent very unlikely. To remove the odour you have to remove the urine salts.
During the rug cleaning process the rug is soaked in a specialist solution designed to loosen the urine crystals, which in turn makes the pre-flushing more effective. In severe cases the rug may be soaked overnight before the desired result is achieved.
The best way for you to deal with this situation at home is to apply a 50/50 mixture of clear vinegar and water to the stained area (after initially absorbing all moisture with kitchen roll). Leave to dwell for about 10 minutes, absorb and repeat if required. This simple procedure will help in preventing odour and fibre discolouration.
