Red Wine Stain Removal – Rug Cleaning Esher
Red wine stains are one of the most common problems that occur on oriental carpets and rugs. These stains pose a problem to professional rug cleaning companies. Red wine will not usually be removed with the standard wash procedure. The problem is that red wine contains a dye called tannin, also found in coffee, tea, beer, gravy plus others. So it’s a dye that has to be removed not dirt or soiling, which will generally be removed during the rug cleaning process.
Oriental and Persian rugs occasionally have weak dyes already, so attempting to remove another dye from existing unstable dyes can be very risky. Many times we find that rug owners have tried to clean the rug themselves with proprietary bought spot and stain removal products. This can cause more issues for the specialist rug cleaning company as these products leave plenty of soil attracting residues in the fibres and can fix the stain, resulting in an even tougher, more challenging removal procedure, with even more risk.
Fortunately the rug in the above pictures was treated successfully with the red wine stain being almost completely removed. The customer was warned upfront of the risk involved before we proceeded.
