Persian Quchan

Quchan is a city based in the northern Khurasan area, northwest of Mashad in Iran. Quchan rugs are often referred to as Quchan Kurd rugs due to the large population of kuridish inhabitants in the city and surrounding areas. These Kurdish descendants were deported from Kurdistan in the seventeenth bringing their traditional rug weaving influences with them. The rugs are woven using locally produced wool which is finer than the Kurdish rugs woven in the west. Symmetrical knots are used with typical Kurdish designs. Flatwoven rugs such as kilims and soumaks are very commonplace. Quchan design is also influenced heavily by the neighbouring Turkman and Beluchi tribes. Quchan rugs are generally coarsley woven in a variety of sizes usually from 6’x 4′ to room-sized pieces.

What an amazing company. They were so excellent and easy to work with. Communication was really superb. We have to say it’s the best service we have had for a very long time. Instructions to wrap up the rug for the collection service was spot on. The rug looks great too and will be down on the floor again very soon.We were flooded so there is enough stress and strain around you and to have a well organised company like Dan and his crew at Oriental Rug Spa was a total bonus. Entrusted 2 old (25 yrs) much loved Indian/Afghan rugs to Dan to remove moth larvae and years of mummified cat sick and cat pee. The company were super responsive when I enquired online, utterly professional and the pick up/drop off service ran in an enviably reliable way! The rugs came back looking as good as new and treated for any remaining moth larvae. I am utterly delighted with the results!

Dan runs a very professional operation. He was easy to work with and clearly communicated the process of cleaning my rug and the time frame.I was blown away by the quality of the clean he was able to achieve (on a very large Moroccan rug that fills an entire room) and could not be happier that I went with Dan and the Oriental Rug Spa.I will certainly be using them again and highly recommend their services.
