Oriental Rugs
An Oriental rug is a handwoven, knotted-pile rug produced in the rug-weaving regions of Asia and the Middle East, stretching from Turkey and Iran through to Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Nepal and beyond. The term covers a broad family of rugs — Persian, Turkish, Afghan, Caucasian and Central Asian designs among them — each with its own weaving traditions, knot structures, dye methods and motifs passed down through generations of craftsmen.
What unites them is the care that goes into their making. Natural fibres such as wool and silk are hand-spun and hand-knotted onto a foundation of cotton or wool, often taking many months, or even years, to complete a single piece. This is precisely why Oriental rugs demand a cleaning approach that respects the materials and construction rather than the generic treatment offered by a standard carpet cleaner.
Oriental Rug Cleaning for Virginia Water Homes
Virginia Water’s leafy, affluent character — from the properties around Wentworth and the Wentworth Estate to homes near Christ Church and the Virginia Water lake — means many residents already own genuine handmade Oriental rugs, often inherited or bought as long-term investments. These rugs deserve a cleaning process built specifically around their needs, not a rushed in-situ shampoo.
We collect from homes throughout Virginia Water (GU25) and the surrounding villages, including Wentworth, Englefield Green, Thorpe, Sunningdale, Windlesham and Chobham, taking your rug back to our workshop in Camberley for hand-cleaning. This out-of-home approach lets us fully assess the rug, test for colour fastness, treat it appropriately for its specific fibre and construction, and allow it to dry thoroughly and evenly before it comes home.
Our Oriental Rug Cleaning Process
- Free collection – We collect your rug from your Virginia Water home at a time that suits you.
- Inspection and dust survey – Every rug is assessed for fibre type, dye stability, wear and existing damage before any cleaning begins.
- Deep dusting – Using specialist equipment, we remove the dry soil and grit trapped deep within the pile, which ordinary vacuuming and in-home cleaning cannot reach.
- Hand-washing – The rug is gently hand-washed using cleaning solutions suited to its specific fibres, whether wool, silk or a blend.
- Rinsing – Thorough rinsing removes all cleaning residue, protecting both the colours and the fibres.
- Controlled drying – Rugs are dried flat in a climate-controlled space, preventing shrinkage, colour bleeding or mildew.
- Finishing touches – Fringes are cleaned and straightened, and the pile is groomed to restore its natural lustre.
- Final inspection and delivery – A last quality check before we return your rug, clean and protected, to your home.
Why Choose Oriental Rug Spa in Virginia Water
We specialise exclusively in rug cleaning — not general carpet cleaning — so every rug that arrives at our Camberley workshop receives the individual attention its construction and history deserve. Our team understands the differences between a Persian knot and a Turkish knot, between vegetable and chemical dyes, and between wool, silk and blended piles, and we clean accordingly.
