Trusted Persian Rug Care for KT14 Homes
Persian rugs have been woven in Iran for centuries, and many rank among the finest hand-made rugs in the world. Weavers knot wool or silk by hand, then dye the fibres to create rich medallions, flowing vines and intricate borders. Because these rugs last for generations, many families in West Byfleet treasure them as heirlooms.
You will find Persian rugs in homes across the village, from period properties near the station to spacious houses along Parvis Road and the quieter roads around Byfleet Road. Each rug has its own history, so we treat it as an individual piece. Before we clean anything, we inspect the weave, fibre and dyes.
Popular Persian Rug Styles
Several classic styles turn up often in our work. For example, Tabriz rugs feature detailed floral patterns, while Kashan rugs use deep reds and blues. Meanwhile, Heriz rugs have bold geometric designs, and Qum rugs often combine wool with fine silk.
Each style reacts differently to washing. Therefore, we choose the method that suits the rug, not a one-size-fits-all clean.
Why Persian Rugs Need Specialist Cleaning
Persian rugs are delicate under the surface, even though they look sturdy. Wrong cleaning methods can cause damage that is difficult to repair.
- Dye migration — natural dyes can run if the water is too hot or the solution is too harsh
- Lost lanolin — strong detergents strip the natural oils that keep wool soft and resilient
- Hidden grit — dirt sinks into the foundation and wears the knots from within
- Moth damage — wool rugs left under furniture or in storage attract moths and carpet beetles
- Pile crushing — furniture legs flatten the pile, particularly in lounges and dining rooms
The Danger of Hidden Dirt
A Persian rug can look clean on top while it holds a surprising amount of grit below. Every footstep grinds that grit against the fibres. As a result, the rug wears faster and the colours lose their depth.
Vacuuming helps, but it cannot reach the base of the pile. In addition, it cannot remove embedded oils or fine soil. Professional hand-cleaning solves both problems.
Our Persian Rug Cleaning Process
Preparing Your Rug
- Inspection and dye testing — first, we assess the fibre, weave and condition, then we test each colour for stability.
- Dust extraction — next, we remove the deep-seated grit that normal vacuuming leaves behind.
Washing, Drying and Finishing
- Hand-washing — then we wash the rug by hand with a pH-balanced solution designed for Persian wool and silk.
- Thorough rinsing — after that, we rinse out all residue, which would otherwise attract fresh dirt.
- Controlled drying — we dry the rug flat in a climate-controlled space to prevent shrinkage, colour run and mildew.
- Finishing — finally, we groom the pile, clean the fringes and complete a last quality check.
