The rug wash process required can differ from rug to rug, so we offer various methods of rug cleaning, from full immersion washing to dry cleaning. Nomadic Sheep Shearing
The rug weaver must know how to choose suitable wool for the various yarns used in each carpet. Basic wool quality is determined by breed of sheep rather than diet and climate. The quality of wool can vary widely in different parts of the same fleece. The first clip will usually produce the finest wool, followed by area around the neck and shoulders. After the sheep is sheared, the wool is pulled apart by hand into clumps. The clumps are sorted into piles of differing quality. The inferior wool is kept and processed into felt and the better grades reserved for weaving. A different type of yarn is used for the warps (fringe) and then wefts. The superior wool is reserved for weaving the pile. An experienced weaver can determine quality by touch and feel and differing diameters of wool down to three thousandths of a millimetre.
