The arabesque is a decorative element common to all Islamic arts. The arabesque is an expression of Muslim spirit which permits decoration without figurative representation. It has a continuous rhythm without repeating – a ribbon without beginning or end. It represents the search for the divine which is truly limitless. There are two versions – the first is geometric and consists of large ribbons regularly articulated by corners and plaits. The second is curvilinear and depicts branches and various floral elements to wind among them.
