All rug fibres can be cared for – wool, cotton, silk, viscose, rayon. We can carry out a pet stain and odour treatment, moth treatment and apply a fibre protection to resist against soiling and staining. We have extensive experience with cleaning antique rugs and rugs with unstable dyes and offer a rug repair service, including fringes, sides and pile reweaving.
Although cottage rugs have their own individual style within certain areas, the design has become more uniform due to the fact that many of the weavers are under contract to the same agent. If a cottage industry becomes highly organised to the point where all the cartoons are supplied from the same source, which may also be responsible for supplying all the looms, then there is little to distinguish cottage weaving from the traditional workshop set-up. These conditions are found in Kayseri, Turkey and many ares in Pakistan. Some worshops allow weavers to work from home. For example in Hereke, where the most technically advanced carpets in Turkey are produced. A highly skilled weaver who has worked for years in the workshop may elect to work away from the hustle and bustle of the busy shop floor. In this case, all that has occurred is that the same work has been relocated. The weaver has not, all of a sudden, become a cottage weaver. The same applies in some Persian towns, such as Qum, where weaving is actually carried out at home, but the quality of the work, the uniformity of the design and the quality control make the rugs indistinguishable from a workshop piece.
