Qashgai Rugs

Persian Qashgai

The Qashgai is a tribe of nomadic weavers that meanders across the south of Iran.  In the summer months they will migrate to the cooler Zagros mountains to shear and harvest the wool. The wool is used to produce rugs which are used to provide comfort within their yurts, along with other rugs which are only used for special ceremonies.  During the winter months they will return to the Shiraz area where the rugs will be marketed and sold.  Qashgai rugs are distinctive in design with a central medallion along with small animal, human and plant motifs.  They are woven completely from memory in a style passed down through the generations.  Qashgai rugs are woven using natural dyes with wool pile and foundation, a combination which can present a challenge when it comes to washing.  If you have a Qashgai rug that needs a clean, then why not give us a call to get a quote and advice.
